What Is NIPT?
NIPT stands for Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing.
It is a blood screening test that looks at small pieces of DNA from the pregnancy that are found in the mother's blood.
The test can screen for the chance of certain chromosome conditions. It may also tell you the baby's sex when included with the lab test.
NIPT Is a Screening Test
NIPT does not diagnose a genetic condition.
It tells you if the chance of certain chromosome conditions may be higher or lower.
If your result needs more follow-up, review it with your OB/GYN, midwife, genetic counselor, maternal-fetal medicine provider or another healthcare provider.

It measures a small amount of fluid behind the baby's neck and looks at early pregnancy development.
The NT ultrasound gives information that is different from the NIPT blood test.

What is NIPT?
The Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT), also called Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening (NIPS), is an elective blood test available as early as 10 weeks of pregnancy.
